On Thursday 21st March Owen Farrell attended Eccles RFC as part of the RBS RugbyForce initiative. The purpose of the day was to connect with grassroots rugby by meeting and coaching local school kids while also being interviewed by members of the local media. Eccles RFC was selected for its strong ties with the local community and schools, as well as its facilities. Children from St. Patrick’s and The Albion high schools and Lewis Street primary school were invited down to meet the England fly half and be put through their paces.

The event attracted a lot of media attention including the BBC, Granada News, The Times, Daily Mail and Manchester Evening News.

Event Organiser Jessica Beeken said “Myself, Kate and Owen were blown away by the whole club’s hospitality. You really do have a remarkable club and what you are doing for the local community is both admirable and inspirational. Owen had a fantastic time with both age groups and spoke highly of the volunteers and coaches in the car on our way back. I know he was particularly touched by what you are doing for the local community and children, of whom he thought were a talented bunch!”
