The fourth team winning spree came to a juddering halt shipwrecked on the fields of Sale as they were well and truly spanked by the Spartans. An under strength squad was always going have its work cut out in this fixture but even so failed to read the warning signs and were blitzed by 3 tries in the opening quarter so much so it was virtually Roger and out back to the cabin boys match as good as lost. The first half was pretty much one way traffic save from one almost score from an interception with Spartans themselves only scoring one try from slick move from the front of a line out.The half time score of 26-0 should had been nearer 50 as the home team squandered some golden chances. The second half proffered little respite with a try from Spartans minutes after the restart but least Eccles did compete and created a number of scoring opportunities .However that was not much comfort against the tide of chances for the home who successfully converted them into tries. On the day the Spartans were better organised efficient in the forwards and then deadly in utilising the resultant possession. The only saving grace was that as the waves lapped the gunwales the crew stuck at it right to the final . It was good to see Chris Hills and Gary Cochrane back in action though they might not have thought so . The Jolly Roger pennant went to winger for sticking to task when press ganged for his first experience as line out jumper. The Blind Pugh award went to the owners of the mutts who left more deposits on the pitch than a cabal of offshore bankers.
