U15s vs. Ashton-u-L

Eccles V Ashton Under Lyne (19.02.2017)

Paul Bates, near the Pennines for the Journal.

Eccles went to Ashton with a chill in the air and the usual lethargy among the assemble team. Coach Bates feared the worse.  The first 10 minutes the AuL centre was running freely and making good yardage. It may have been a long day.  Then suddenly Eccles realised that the whistle had gone and joined in the game.

The defensive press was excellent with Ryley most noticeable in the tackle and Tumy hitting the rucks hard which forced AuL into errors and Eccles were continually on the front foot.  There were two well balanced kicks over the defence from Daniel D which Rory ran onto on both occasions to score. He added a third later on.

The try of the game came with a forward running straight and both backs & forward combining for Dan to cut the line from fullback and score.  Most pleasing was the team attempting the move we tried on Wednesday which resulted in another try – the scorer escapes me.

There were a number of outrageous dummies with the team cutting loose.
I know I’missed a few scores but who cares – we won!  Oh I remember Tumy picked up from the base of the scrum to power of the line from 10 metres and I know Cal owes Joe 5000 points at snooker for getting his long range kick.

Tom says the facts aren’t important – after all who is gong to read it. Far point.
Anyway – we won – fact
50 nil -fact

Great game to watch -fact (from an Eccles perspective).  As Billy pointed out we scored from kicks, forward drives, out through the backs and a lineout drive – Will got that I  remember as it didn’t quite go to plan.
