Result: Win 30-0
Welcome back to Sunday rugby. It’s great to be back, isn’t it? Simon has missed his breakfasts and Sarah’s magic sponge was getting dry!
Today’s match was our first Lancashire Waterfall fixture. The boys arrived at the club looking very smart in their shirts and new club ties. It all seemed very professional, as they were issued their own changing room and the training pitch in front of the club house.
Old Bedians provided the opposition as friends and family settled in the autumnal sunshine to enjoy the opening match of the season.
The boys started strongly and dominated possession throughout. Old Bedians came with a man down, so our boys gallantly took turns for them. Our winning form from last season continued; the boys demonstrated effective passing, robust tackling and penetrating sprints through the Old Bedians’ defence. The team spirit was as convincing as ever and every boy played his part.
Finley was the captain today and led by example, putting in valuable tackles and successful runs forward. Henry and Lucas capped off their good performances with tries and Will B’s speed and winding runs gave him two tries. Sam also got his name on the score sheet, along with new player Thomas, who had an impressive debut, scoring two. Credit goes to the Old Bedians boys who never gave up despite the constant pressure from our Eccles boys and their own injuries. ( Matthew made an appearance, as Sarah’s glamorous assistant with cheers from the side lines!)
We have a magnificent group of U13 Eccles players here, who if they train regularly, continue to improve fitness and work hard on their skills should perform well again this season.
Well done boys. We are all looking forward to the next match.
