Result: Won 80-5
In the glorious autumnal sunshine, dominant Eccles made it three wins from three today. The tone was set from the outset with good pressure from Eccles, resulting in Lucas spinning himself around to score the opening try.
There was an impressive display of rugby today. The boys’ developing skills were evident; we saw strong tackles, effective passing and above all excellent communication between all boys on the pitch – they are growing up!
Duncan used his strength well keeping the ball in play near the try line and then off-loading to Lucas for the second try.
Lucas was on a roll now, his third try came by chasing a super kick down the field from Sam.
Bury managed to get one back after pressure from a penalty, but after that, there was no let up from the irrepressible hosts. Lucas and George got one each and Luke H scored his try following a great pick up from Harry, who had the next try at the corner post.
At half time, it was 30-5 and time for oranges! The burst of vitamin C and fructose were going to keep up the energy levels for the second half. (A new initiative started today by Andrew. Watch out for the text when it’s your turn! They certainly went down well with the boys.)
The second half provided much of the same from Eccles, yet credit must go to Bury, who never gave up and whose supporters were good sports to the end.
Duncan got the biggest cheer of the match after battling the Bury defence and powering through for a try right in front of the spectating parents.
Every boy played his part in today’s victory. Connor and Harvey were impressive in the scrum. Finley and Luke H. made penetrating runs. Jake, Billy, Henry and George topped the tackle count. Billy, Sam and Thomas added to their try tally. Will B and Harry used their speed and agility well.
Congratulations boys. Another imposing performance, including, for the first time today, a battle chant along the line whilst waiting for the opposition’s penalty to be taken. Where did that come from?
