Result: Win 35-15
Wow! Another win. Today was a treat for the parent spectators; it was an exhilarating match between two evenly matched teams, who were both hungry for the win. In the lovely warm sunshine, there wasn’t a woolly winter hat to be seen.
This was a hard fought match from start to finish. Winnington were strong with their tackles, rucks and counter-rucking, which caused us to work even harder, but Eccles managed to frequently turn over the ball to get back possession.
There were many positives in our play today. The whole team stepped up to the challenge of this fast paced game; forwards using their strength battling for possession and backs passing well.
Henry got the first try following his strong side stepping of the defence. George got two, the first following Lucas’ driving run and offload, then the second after ripping the ball from the opposition. Billy and Reece got a try each, both boys using their strength and determination to take them over the try line. Lucas got the final try – a typical strong run through the field.
There were other notable performances: Jack pulling men out of the maul (directed by Amy’s insightful “pointing” from the side-lines), Harry, Luke F and Will B sprinting down the wing, Luke H’s and Finley’s strength and good hands, Harvey, Connor and Will R getting the tackles in and Jake moving the ball around quickly.
Every boy worked hard to earn this victory. The final comment from The Gentlemen’s Breakfast Club was very positive and has been edited to “It was unequivocally brilliant!”
Toby (who is now the official team photographer) has taken some fabulous photos today and, if I manage to upload them correctly, they should appear with this report. I’ll try to add last week’s photos to that report next. Thanks Toby.
