After the Saturday night’s rain dancing and downpours, we were surprised to be braving this November morning. The match was on! Our opponents from Littleborough came by boat, following flooding at home.
In a round robin fixture, Eccles started well against Bolton, with determined running forward from Reece and Duncan. Strong counter-rucking and a steal by George gave Duncan the ball to score the first try. Duncan was on fire! Finley brilliantly intercepted a Bolton pass, thus preventing a try against Eccles and ditto Nathan with a solid tackle. What followed was a period in which Eccles lacked focus and concentration, allowing Bolton to score their first try. Subsequently, Lucas came on and within two minutes scored a try to put Eccles back in front. Nathan had the next try, using his exceptional speed to leave the opposition behind. Overall, a sound performance from the team.
Eccles then had a break, talking tactics in the trees, whilst Bolton played Littleborough. Watching from the side-lines, it was noted that the next opponents would give Eccles a tough match.
Littleborough gave Eccles a good game and played well. They were certainly our toughest test this season. Harvey and Finley put in some solid tackles and Luke F. made a storming run across the pitch to force the opposition into touch, preventing what looked like a certain try scoring opportunity. Eccles did make efforts to break through this Littleborough side, narrowly missing a try scoring opportunity early on. However, missed tackles, not using the full width of the pitch and handling errors gave the opposition too much of the ball and ultimately the win. Nonetheless, the progress of this Eccles squad is still evident.
