The Eccles U9s had a home game against Orrell. Eccles were a few members down fielding one team with one sub every 10 minutes as did Orrell.
Squad: Conor, Josh, Finley, Flynn, Michael, Owen, Sandy, Tyler
The first 5 minutes were evenly balanced with each team driving up the middle and claiming a try. However, a strong push forward from Conor and Flynn and a nice pass out to the supporting Michael, put Eccles into the lead. From the restart, Eccles created strong drives up the middle from Owen, Josh and Finn who put Sandy through the gap and despite a last gasp tackle, his momentum carried him (and two Orrell players) across the line! Our finest 10 minutes of the game came from strong defensive team play, edging up the field patiently and clever connecting play from Josh, Sandy and Finn allowing Tyler to break down the right wing and score a try (again and again!). Orrell responded well with a series of quick passes to level the scores. Nearing the end of the game, tired legs were evident from both sides as tempers started to fray. Refusing to take the bait, Owen signaled the team to take their places, with Eccles focused on the task in hand, driving play forward, allowing Finley to get on the scoresheet. Although Orrell were much in possession for the final quarter of the game, a final push from Eccles saw Tyler break away from the pack to add to his tally and edge the win for the team.
Final Score: Orrell 11 – 12 Eccles (Sandy ; Michael ; Finley ; Tyler )
Man of the match: Tyler who used his speed and agility to great advantage. A special mention goes to Flynn and Michael for some cracking tackles throughout the game and to Sandy for keeping his cool despite some hardcore niggling. Overall, a strong team performance – well done!
