The ups and downs of rugby squad life continues… 19 last week and 13 this week. Again we avoided the rain but not the brisk wind although those training didn’t seem to notice.
With the warm ups out of the way (thanks Sergeant Archie) it was down to the usual mix of games and drills. This week the drills concentrated on defence and passing with the attacking force of the coaches taking on the defensive might of the Eccles posse. Eccles put up stern defence to start with the line holding fast from both teams (Well done, I wasn’t expecting that!!!!) and it took some inventive running and passing from the coaches to suck in the defence and score in the corners (and prove a point).
We then “attempted” some passing down an attacking line, not “entirely” successful and more work needed I think.
Well done to “Big” Josh for being the ultimate super villain.
As mentioned in previous reports, STAR OF THE WEEK can be for major performances or little tiny moments during the session or match. This week it goes for an incident in the numbers game at the end of the session where a simple pass met with a determined expression that translated to a burst of speed down the wing which saw “Super Pegs” outpace Martin to score in the corner. Well done Peggy.
I have been asked to mention the Gala Dinner/Dance. This will be on Saturday 10th May and includes a champagne reception, four course meal plus band and disco. Tables hold 10 people and places are on first com first served basis. If you are interested in attending, see the contact information on the link for tickets. If there are sufficient numbers I will try an organise tables etc and we can all get our party frocks on!
I also now have the “Players Player” award slips printed off and will be circulating them over the next few weeks…only one vote per player.
Next Sunday we are away at Trafford MV where numbers should not be a problem! They are just off M60 Junction 7.
Full address is as follows…
Macpherson Park, Finneybank Road, Sale, Cheshire. M33 6LR
As per usual arriving at 10:15 would be good.
See you on Sunday
