Eccles U14 traveled to Altrincham Kersal and were in luck with the weather. They didn’t get any luck afterwards. Firstly everyone got there for the allotted time only to have to park in Timperly…..oh blimey! (said whilst holding your nostrils…………Frank Sidebottom for those that don’t get it) (Kids you tube it) and then walk 10 minutes to the ground.
This clip combines another of my heroes in Frank’s homage.
The first 15 minutes were evenly matched with strong contest at the ruck and tackle areas with both teams stealing turnovers or losing possession depending on your perspective.
Eccles were very strong in the tackle and gave away a number due to high tackles which resulted in an Eccles player being sin binned for his first offence which some of the Altrincham supporters near me felt was harsh. However these things happen.
The boys continued to keep their heads up and battle until the end. Kersal were more decisive in using their pace out wide and towards the end Eccles coughed up good ball in AK’s half which resulted in them going full length to score despite a good tackle by Shayne who was unlucky not to get a penalty and from the ruck AK scored.
In the AK were fitter and faster in the closing stages and took their chances.
Eccles need to defend the wide channels better and back up the ball carrier and ruck beyond the ball. There was lots to be be optimistic about and neither Billy or I could fault the determination
As ever no idea who scored.
There is a spot the ball competition on Billy’s pictures so please put a “X” on the photo and send it to the Evening News Pink. (Parents explain what the Pink was – actually a cycling link to Giro D’Italia – Gazzetta della Sport for those who are interested. Only me….mmm)
Tom is yellow carding the ref!
Final Scores from the Pink……….
