U14 don”t like a tough mudder

Eccles U14 traveled to Leigh for the re-arrange Blacksticks game. In the car on the way up Alison predicted that we wouldn’t be up for it. How right she was!

The Leigh pitch was heavy to use a racing parlance with some pools of water but definitely playable. The Eccles lads were not up for the scrap whereas the Leigh team were and the first half Eccles were blown apart not by hurricane Duncan but by the opposition.

If you stand and watch and walk around then you will not win rugby games.

Half time Leigh were 4 tries to the good

Second half Eccles decided to start to get involved and were rewarded for the improved attitude. A scrum on the 10m line resulted in a well executed box kick from the base of the scrum from Tom and Shayne chased and collected the ball to score despite some excellent cover tackle from  a Leigh player.

Ciaran who was one of the few players to stand out used his football skills and kicked the ball a couple of times to score with an athletic dive.

Other notable performance were from Daniel who desire to drop on loose ball and tactical kicking made him stand out, Tom R was constantly trying to tackle and hit rucks. Captain Archie as ever tackled as Billy said “He’s the only one tackling there big guy and that lad is 4 times the size of Archie”.

The way we ambled about made me think that perhaps they’re winding down for Chritsmas. Fitness this week boys.

Finally, a big thank you to Leigh referee, coaches, players and parents who were friendly, sporting and played the game in the spirit and ethos of rugby. And Tom said the food is better than Eccles! Chilli, pie, hotpot and burgers.
