u13’s Eccles v Waterloo – Blacksticks – 1st December 2013

Finally, Eccles u13’s were able to put out a full 15, they even managed a substitute for the 2nd half. Well done to everyone who is helping with recruitment, Keep it up!

This weeks warriors were:
Max, Dave, Josh
Dan G, Joe 3, Lewis, Joe 2
and Alex

Dan A, Matt W, Ben, Nathan, Chea, Joe 1, Max (Muscles) and our latest addition Josh.

The game wasn’t quite as successful as the achievement of turning out a full squad, with Waterloo putting Eccles under pressure right from the start with an Eccles maul being overturned.  A scrum for the visitors led to an early attempt to score, which was saved by Chea, who managed to get underneath and hold up the ball.

Shortly afterward however a maul on the try line was driven over by the visitors for the first of Waterloos’ trys.

The game was filled with end to end action with Waterloo having the monopoly on getting the ball over the line.  Eccles showed some good solid defence when it really mattered, in one frantic affray it took the visitors eight attempts to get the ball over the line from the 5 metre mark.  The closest Eccles got to scoring was when Chea took advantage of a Waterloo handling mistake and charged 50 metres up the pitch only to be pulled down short of the line with no support.

All in all a good performance from a new squad, it being the first outing in an Eccles shirt for a few of the lads. There were a lot of good individual performances and positive points to work on, which all the squad identified and agreed on during the post match debrief, its very encouraging that they know themselves which areas need work and what they need to do.

Feedback from our guests:
The Waterloo coaches complimented the boys performance and individual abilities.  The lads are a credit to the club as their attitude and behaviour could not be faulted even after a heavy defeat. They felt that as soon as the lads gel as a team then they will start producing more positive results.

On to next week and we have a home game against Bolton (weather permitting) so usual 10:15 meet in the changing rooms for an 11:00 kick off. Our ever expanding squad has another two additions in Harry and Cameron making their debut this Sunday, hopefully we will also see the return of a couple of the lads who have been injured or off on other ventures. Lets see if we can empty the kit bag of shirts in what should be an exciting match.
