Eccles U7s travelled west up the East Lancs Rd to take on Tyldedsley in another entertaining game, spoilt only by some dubious referreeing decisions (well, I had warned them about diving!)
The team, now bereft of our girls who have made the transition to the U8s, took to the superb playing surface for this rare occasion was played in decent weather. The Tyldesley Capt, on her birthday, won the right to select for kick off and she soon made it pay as ‘bongs took a deserved lead.
Eccles replied swiftly with Ollie doing his tango, foxtrot and quickstep in one run before putting Jonnie in at the corner. With Alfie and Luke securing the middle of the park Tyldesley were forced into the corner themselves to pull level. The boys realised only quck hands to transfer the ball would create tries on the narrow pitch and Luke read the gaps superbly to put Finn in for his first. Next up was jonnie, this was his weather at last – and he outpaced the chasers for his first of two.
The turnaround at half time would have seen more scores from both sides had they not tried to impersonate Chris Ashtons splash dives! OK an exagerration, but each week we insist on no diving over the line (this gets the players learning how to get in the habit of safely placing the ball down and picking it up around the contact area).
Tyldesley came back again, this time straight from the restart with Eccles’ concentration eluding them momentarily. Following a quiet word from DoR Chris (come on!), Danniel popped up for hs first or two interupted only by Theo getting his first for the club.
Alfie and Finn scored in similar manner, squeezing through the tightest of gaps across the line. Luke led the tag count on the day as well as having a hand in nearly each try.. Well done! Jonnie, Theo and Danniel all bagged their second scores with Ollie claiming one, before Tydesley had the last say on the whistle. Great game!
Thanks to Neil from Tyldesley for the game and making us welcome.
This week sees a home game against Heaton Moor with an 11.00am kick off.
