Season summary 2007- 2008
Eccles Ladies started the season with a squad of more than
20 players which included 7 new faces who joined during the
pre season. Training over the summer created a new lease of
life among the team with more emphasis on controlling the game
and playing more expansive and flowing rugby.
Our first games were played against tough and more experienced
opposition in Liverpool and Halifax who proved on the day to
be to strong. After these games we focused on improving in areas
that some players had little experience with. This showed massive
improvements as we went on to win our next games against Colne
and Nelson, Rossendale and Bolton.
As the season drew to a close we had improved immensely and
finished the season with a win at Colne and Nelson to finish
third in the league and our highest placing on record.
With the season finished we then focused on our tours visiting
firstly Nottingham for the Solstice sevens which gave us the
opportunity to play teams at a higher level than us and to introduce
the new players to sevens rugby.
We then went onto Southwald where we entered the annual beach
tournament, the tour was enjoyed by all and we managed to reach
the semi finals before losing in a close game. The final leg
of our touring calendar takes us to Newquay in august where
we will be taking a record 24 players to the beach tournament.
Overall this season has been successful and with the attitude
and experienced gained last season, the team believe they have
an excellent chance of promotion.
