Tarleton 17 v 12 Eccles Jnr Colts

                   06/01/13 – 12.30 pm k.o.           Att: 47

Eccles travelled to Tarleton some of us up the motorway, some through Chorley but we all got there. Eccles won the earlier fixture back in October and today it was important to keep our discipline as Tarleton kicked 12 of there 17 points at Gorton street. Without Connor and Rob surely our discipline would be good.

During the early exchanges both teams tested each other out, Harry broke, Ross backed him up who in turn passed out to Ben but was tackled into touch. Tarleton broke the deadlock with a penalty, 3-0. Harry fired up again broke through but had no support. Simon had a chance but was tackled well short of the try line. Eccles was awarded a penalty but decided to go for the try which paid off as a quick ball to Harry saw him storm over to score a well deserved try, Aaron kicked the conversion, 3-7.

Some great tackles from Tom Waring and Lewis followed. Tarleton were awarded another penalty and went for a kick at goal which fell short into the hands of Joe Greene who ran a good 20 yards before being tackled.

The game was tight and it took a Tarleton scrum in which there number 8 broke through two tackles to score which was converted, 10-7.

Eccles put the pressure back on with some good forward play out to the backs which found Aaron who had joined the line to score in the corner. He missed the difficult kick, 10-12.

HT 10-12.

Apart from a well taken catch from Rob amongst the crowd the first 10 minutes of the half were spent in the middle of the park. The pitch was very heavy but some great drives from the Eccles pack gained ground. Tarleton attacked also but Eccles held them out. Tom Heath running back well to make sure the ball was dead. The game was very tight and was there to be won by either side, unfortunately for Eccles it was Tarleton who got the break and scored a well taken try, 17-12.

Eccles attacked again but it was in vain as the game ended.

A hard game in difficult conditions was played in a great spirit, well played to both teams.
