Success for Colts Friday Night Floodlight 2

Last night, Bury RUFC welcomed the U17 colts of Eccles and Wythenshawe for the second Colts Friday Floodlights night. Continuing the momentum of last week’s auspicious debut at the dazzling Gorton Street Arena, the all-play-all  gathering attracted encouraging numbers from all three teams. With a structure of six 15 minute games, where each opponent played each other twice, players enjoyed 60 mins of fast-paced, competitive rugby.

Eccles arrived with a healthy squad of eighteen ( 6 of who are new and recent recruits to the game ) and won all 6 of their games.  Players were loaned amongst the teams to keep things evenly-matched when injuries reduced numbers and great spirit of camaraderie was observed, both on the pitch and in the clubhouse afterwards.  Thanks to Bury for hosting a very enjoyable evening and to all the parents for their support and transport.

All credit to the players themselves who are promoting attendance amongst their peers on online networks and are making it happen.

The simple aim of the Friday Floodlight Friendlies is to provide local colts opportunites to organise, play and enjoy their rugby.  By giving ownership and responsibility to the players (with coaches involvement limited to providing pitches, shirts and encouragement) it’s hoped the experience will be rewarding and encourage leadership and sociability.  All U17 players, lapsed and new are welcome. Bring your boots and bring your mates.
