Quarter Final SEDGLEY
17.3.13 – 12.30 pm k.o. Att: 70
Eccles junior colts travelled the short distance to Sedgley for this quarter final tie. Straight from the off Eccles piled the pressure on attacking the Sedgley line. After only 4 mins some good passing saw Harry Benn go over to score his 1st try of the game. Aaron Booth’s conversion was charged down, 0-5. Again Eccles attacked and has Harry broke the ball found its way out to Ben Robert’s who went over to score but the pass to him was ruled offside. Evan went close on the other wing but somehow couldn’t ground the ball. Sedgley had 2 players sin binned and Eccles made the most of it with Harry going over again to score, Aaron converted, 0-12. As the rattle sounded, (yes we have a rattle!) Eccles looked good. How wrong could I be? Sedgley ventured into the Eccles half and scored! 7-12. The Eccles lads got their heads back on the game and were rewarded when the ball was sent out through the backs to Joe Greene on the wing who went over to score, Aaron kicked, 7-19. Eccles continued to pile on the pressure with the forwards dominating the game and scored again as the Eccles number 8 Ross Eaton went over in the corner, 7-24. Aaron kicked a penalty which brought the half to a close, 7-27.
Sedgley got their act together in the 2nd half and although they didn’t really threaten the Eccles try line they stopped Eccles from scoring more tries for the majority of the game. The 2nd half was not as lively as the 1st from an Eccles point of view, the highlight being a yellow card for Ross Eaton for not releasing, strange one, any way moving on. Eccles finally broke the Sedgley defence with a penalty which Matty Pass found Harry Benn who charged over for his 3rd try, 7-32. Captain Curtis Bates and Evan picked up injuries and joined Ton Heath on the sidelines but hopefully they won’t be out for too long.
Harry Hargreaves got his act together and took lots of photos and Rob Mather didn’t give a single penalty away all game!
