Sedgley Park 3rd 36 v Eccles 2nd 12 11/02/2017

A very cold day above the Irwell Valley but the action was hot enough as the seconds despite only arriving with 14 men which included Andy Waring called in to prop gave the home side a scare. An early try from Andy  Stimpson  saw Eccles ahead before on 20 mins before Park replied in kind to gain parity. 5 minutes later the 2nds edged ahead once more as forward drive gained ground and Alex Binnington twisted and turned to force his way over and Carl Wilkinson added the extras .Eccles defended sternly but a yellow card (Josh Waring) reduced the  to 13 men  and Park capitalised with a pushover try.12-10 . Right on half time a kick was charged down in own half by Alex and the ball kicked down field a chase ensued and defender snagged close to the home line but a foot in touch stopped a potential score .The second half started at a fast pace with kick ahead gathered by Nick Hageman who made into the home 22 but the ball was lost was a Park counter attack was finally thwarted deep in our half by frantic defence. Close order forward play saw Park smuggle the ball over the line to score (40mins) 12-17.Eccles responded pressing the home line and the was switched wide to wing and Alan Davies high tackled into touch yards from the try line (50mins). A potential penalty try offence and yellow card or the latter at the very least but only a penalty proffered which Eccles were unable to profit from. The 2nds continued to defend valiantly but a penalty close to line allowed Park to drive over the line to touchdown (60mins) 12-22.Both sides continued to threaten with home side taking territorial advantage and being lucky to increase their lead with a try that clearly been dropped ( attested to by spectators from both camps ) (75mins) 12-29 .Another drive in the final minute saw a Park prop plough over to score. 12-36 .A tough match which covered the length and breadth of the pitch and the scoreline barely reflected the effort of 2nds who a man short throughout found no one wanting to  put in a tremendous performance not only in defence but in producing a fair share of the attacking play within the match .
