U10’s Rugby Festival (A J Bell Stadium) 17th January 2015

Eleven under 10’s players turned up to represent Eccles RUFC at a tournament organised by Sale Sharks on an extremely cold and dismal day.

The cold didn’t stop Eccles u10’s enjoying the day and bonding as a team.

Eccles first game was scheduled to start at 13:20hrs against Hoylake.

Hoylake took advantage of the fact they had already played a game and scored the first try. Some great play be Eccles saw some good team work with several good passes out to the wing where Matthew collected the ball and raced to the try line to even the score. Unfortunately Hoylake gained possession of the ball to score a second try.
As Eccles start the game running head on into a snow shower spectators witnessed some great team work with players fighting to keep possession. Eventually the ball was passed out to the safe hands of Matthew who equalised with four minutes left to play.

Hoylake determined to score a try pushed forward, Nicholas continued to make some great defensive play and drove Hoylake into touch as the final whistle blew early due to the poor weather.

Eccles 2 – 2 Hoylake

Game 2 at 1400hrs  Eccles v Winnington Park #2

Winnington Park scored the first try within the first few minutes.  Eccles continued to battle the weather and show some great team play with some excellent rucking which allowed the ball to be passed to Calvin who raced down the wing dodging Winnington Park players.  Calvin eventually crossed the try line and touched the ball down to equalise the score.  Two minutes later at the sixth minute the referee blew his whistle to end the game early due to the poor weather conditions.

Eccles 2 – 2 Winnington Park #2

Game 3 at 15:00hrs  Eccles v Knutsford #2

The big question at this stage was would the weather hold off?.  Eccles players went inside to dry off whilst they awaited the start of game 3.

Knutsford started the game and opened up the scoring.  Eccles then settled down to play with several great passes.  Ernie lays the ball of to Harvey who realised Calvin was racing down the line, a great pass from Harvey to Calvin enabled Calvin to equalise.

Knutsford kicked off only to lose the ball as Nicholas drives over giving Alex the chance to pick the ball up and pass it to Matthew.  Matthew then passed to Ernie who passed to Evan.  Evan then passed to Harvey who didn’t hesitate in sprinting to score Eccles 2nd try.  Knutsford kick off, Patrick tackled and Nicholas stepped over and drives hard giving Annie time to collect the ball and race up the pitch passing the ball to Kody who passed it to Alex.  Alex passed the ball to Calvin who without hesitation scored Eccles 3rd try.

Eccles 3 – 1 Knutsford#2

Game 4  Eccles v Macclesfield

Macclesfield scored three quick try’s whilst Eccles battled in the rain with some great tackles by Joe, Nick and Evan.  Eccles found it difficult to play the opposition, the weather and some questionable refereeing decisions.

Eccles 0 – 3 Macclesfield

As the tournament drew to a close Eccles won 1, drew 2 and lost 1.  Finishing 2nd in the tournament.  All Eccles under 10 players should be congratulated on the team spirit displayed at the tournament.

Seven players stayed for the Sale Sharks v Clermont match and paraded around the pitch at half time.
