After a blank week (cup withdrawal) a squad was conjured up for the league trip to Rochdale and what a miserable day rain of biblical proportions
throughout the match. Playing against the wind and uphill Eccles spent most of the half defending having to call on both replacements early doors due to injuries to Ben Prince and Ryan Thornley . It was a good effort just to concede 2 tries by the interval now down to 14 men to trail 12-0.A frenetic second half saw many chances and even more spills with Eccles edging back mid period scoring a well taken try from Matt Hill (12-5).It nearly got better as forward drive saw Jason Davies take it on only to be held up over the line. The home side countered with a brake away try (17-5) and late on as Eccles further depleted with the loss of Ben Hogan and Matt Hill scored again on in the corner at which juncture the referee called time on proceedings (22-5) much to the relief of the drowned rats . A creditable display after torrid start threatened rout with tremendous defence from all and sheer graft from the forwards..Both sides tried to play open rugby inspite of the deluge giving Wells, Hill, McCarthy .Holt and Steve (did you see my tackle !!) Bagnall stretch their legs.
