Oates returns

Eccles RFC are delighted to welcome back Cameron Oates to Gorton Street.

DOR/Head Coach Sam Simpson had this to say about the latest recruit – “It’s brilliant to have Cammy commit to Eccles RFC for the 2018/19 season. He’s a fantastic fullback with a real desire to get his hands on the ball and get over the try line. He has some fantastic lines of running in his locker and manages to always be on the shoulder of someone breaking the defensive line. Cammy is no stranger to Gorton Street having spent lots of his childhood watching his Father Thomas McGuigan and his Uncle Jimmy McGuigan play for a number of the Eccles senior teams in the early 2000s as well as pulling the blue and white hoops on himself as a Mini’s/Junior and Colt, winning age grade Lancashire representative honours as well as helping his Eccles team to Lancashire cup glory.”

Salford-born Cammy had this to say – ‘Having watched my dad and uncle play at Eccles whilst growing up I spent most of my Saturdays down at Gorton Street so I am looking forward to following in their footsteps and hopefully playing 1st team this season. In the past 2 years or so I have been struggling with numerous injuries, some of which resulted in operations but after playing a full season of rugby league this summer I am a lot fitter and looking forward for pre-season and the new rugby union season as a whole. I’m currently working as a barman at The Marriott Country Club in Worsley and will be starting studies at Manchester Metropolitan University in September”
