Northwich 21 v Eccles Snr Colts 22

Eccles Senior Colts travelled to Northwich with the minimum 15 men to take on a team who were also struggling with numbers but on the day were capable of fielding a squad of 17.

Throughout the first half Eccles gave the appearance of being in control but constantly failed to take any opportunity that fell their way eventually allowing Northwich to register two converted tries, one on the very stroke of half time following a break from the home side’s 22.

After much huffing and puffing at half time and some direct words from, The Management, aka William Borrett Esq., Eccles started the second half in style running at the home side with ball in hand and making the first half score appear a travesty.  The Eccles hard work was rewarded with three unconverted tries, two by Chris Finch and one by Reece James.  This gave Eccles a 14 – 15 lead.

Now you would expect from this platform the Eccles team would start to extend their lead.  However with a big self destruct button being pushed by the boys in Blue the home side were gifted with another converted try to put the score at 21 – 15 with only seven minutes to play.

We then had seven and probably a bit more minutes of frantic rugby with Eccles laying siege to the Northwich line and the home side defending with everything they had.  With far too much white line fever being displayed by Eccles all the effort appeared to be to no avail until in the last seconds of play Reece James dived over to score to take the score to 21 – 20.  With the conversion to win the game, and all three previous attempts missed the pressure was on.  Thankfully with no concept of the expression of pressure Reece James kicked the extra two points to give Eccles a deserved, but hard earned win.

The win now means that for the second week in succession all four senior teams at Eccles have won their games.  Well done to all.
