I thought I’d start this match report with the manager’s comments, which most definitely reflect the effort, enthusiasm and achievement on the day….
Well folks – what can I say about that !!!
5 very tough games which gave us just about everything you could wish for on a perfect morning for rugby.
Was a little concerned following two previous heavy defeats against Wigan and Littleborough. Those worries were dispelled though with some amazing rugby. All games had too many positives to mention, let alone remember them all.
Good hard strong running up the middle of the pitch (often breaking the defence line) from Guy, Jack, Lewis and Mateusz, setting the tone straight away and gave us some really good position. This combined with mazy runs from Ben, Lucas, Josh and Charlie, coupled with penetrating wing-breaks by Reece, Mitch and Archie ensured we were always on the front.
A great defensive effort by all with some amazing rucking helped to keep the opposition attacks to a minimum. Unfortunately some over officious refereeing also contributed to low scoring games – well done boys for playing to the whistle and not back-chatting.
Three stand-out moments for me were:
– Lucas, suddenly coming to life mid-way through the 3rd game and scoring 2 great tries within the space of five minutes. Unluckily had a third try disallowed for over-running the dead-ball line.
– Reece`s Ben-esque interception, slight fumble and blistering run down the touchline but just running out of steam in front of the line.
– A sustained defensive effort on our own line ending by Lewis busting 2-3 tackles from behind the line to get another try-ending attack started
Overall a great effort by everyone and great spirit when being asked to take their turn on the subs bench
Home game this week v Ashton 0n Mersey and Bolton. I`m not available so James will be taking the team – sure he will appreciate any help on offer.
Cheers , Oggy
Just to supplement Martin’s comments, I thought this Sunday was a real return to form after a couple of disappointing results for the boys against Littleborough and Wigan. That said, you can always take positives from every situation, and perhaps a couple of unexpected results might have been a good thing and help the lads understand that you are always going to have an off day or two. At the end of the day, those sorts of situations are all character-building. What matters is how you bounce back from it – and BOUNCE BACK THEY DID!
In summary from me, a fantastic and really outstanding all-round team performance from all the lads. The rucking – whilst a bit iffy at the start – soon came good with some lovely ball movement around the pitch and great support play.
Not only was it great to see everyone playing to their strengths, but they were enjoying every minute of it too.
Well done boys!!
