As neither of the colts had a game they decided to play each other.
The junior colts started well putting the seniors under pressure. “Out gunned” was the cry as the juniors dominated the early stages. Simon tried to break through but was tackled well apart from his eye which took the full force of the tackle, nice shiner! The juniors broke the deadlock with Connor Bates going over from a penalty, Aaron missed the conversion, 5-0. The seniors got into their stride and hit back with a try from Brendan, 5-5. The juniors hit straight back with a try from Harry, 10-5. The junior colts were playing some good attacking rugby and as the ball went from Sam out to Aaron who had joined the line he passed out to Ben Roberts on the wing who went over in the corner to score, 15-5.
Into the 2nd half and the seniors started well with Reece scoring an early try, 15-12. Eccles juniors first attack of the 2nd half saw Aaron run at the seniors defence limited by his options he chipped over the defender and followed the ball, the bounce went in his favour and he caught well and scored a great try, 20-12. Luke pulled a try back for the seniors, 20-17. The juniors were holding their own and as Aaron collected the ball he ran straight through the seniors defence to score. He kicked the conversion, 27-17. The juniors looked tired and couldn’t stop the seniors scoring a final try, 27-22. The juniors held on and did enough to clinch a well-earned victory. There was a lot of talk before this game about what was going to happen but even before the game the juniors prepared well and were rewarded for their efforts.
Man of the match Aaron Booth.
