Presidents Welcome
Welcome to The Eccles RFC website. You will see from the home page that we are a genuine community Rugby Club at Eccles, with an ambitious 1st XV currently top of North Lancs 1, with RFU Level 2 coaches, physio etc. along with the 2nd and 3rd adult teams in Miller Homes leagues 3 North and 5 East respectively. We have a Senior Colts team (U’19’s) and a Junior Colts team (U’17’s) and a Junior and Mini section with teams at every age from under 7’s to under 16’s. We also have a women’s team who play in North west 2. All teams are coached by RFU level 1 coaches as a minimum. This season the Club has players representing Lancs at Colts and Junior level and have a number of Senior Colts currently hoping to do well in the North of England trials! All the above is as a result of the combined policy of the Club over the past 15 years or so of developing mini, junior, colts and ladies sections in conjunction with developing our facilities to meet these changing and growing needs of a Community Rugby Club. This has been further enhanced with the appointment last year of our own Rugby Community Coach, Trevor Parrott, who gets into the local schools to run rugby programmes and create links between the schools and Eccles RFC. Hopefully, our continued progress, particularly in the development of young players, where we had England, North and Lancashire representation last year, is beginning to reward the tremendous amount of work that has been put in by all the volunteers in the Clubs recent development. Whilst we hope those young players at the top level will go on to realise their potential, our hope is that the high standard of those remaining will lift the first XV over the coming years to the highest level possible for an amateur Club. The club is completely amateur with only part time paid bar staff and groundsman. All other activities – coaching, fund raising, tournaments, gala days, social functions, tours, etc are carried out by the members. So, if you like the sound of the way we do things come down and say hello, perhaps even have a drink!
