International honours

‘Haggis’ has scored eight tries in four appearances for the Ladies this season.

Lauren ‘Haggis’ Harris has been selected as part of the Scotland squad to face England in the opening game of the Women’s Six Nations, on Friday night in Glasgow. The game will be streamed live on EnglandRugby.com, kicking off at 18:00.

Lauren will become the first ever open age player to receive international honours while playing for Eccles (Harry Scott, whose ashes were recently spread on our pitch, and spent most of his career with Eccles, played for England in 1955, but was with Manchester RUFC at the time). She follows Chris Parrott and Jordan Davies who represented England at U16 and U18 levels respectively.

Her selection is another feather in the cap of the thriving female rugby section at Eccles, which boasts three girls teams and two open age teams, with a number of Lancashire and North of England representatives across all grades.

Supporters may have slightly torn allegiances when watching on Friday, but I’m sure we’re all united in congratulating Lauren on this achievement.

The big question is who will be next to follow in her footsteps?
