The fourths rounded up a mixture of old stagers and colts to travel to the environs of Chester for a first meeting with the vets of Helsby. Under the gaze of the Old Man of Frodsham and with crisp clear day and large playing area both teams combined to provide a fast flowing and entertaining match right from the start.The game kicked off with the unusual sight of versatile forward Steve “Willie”

Eccles steaded the ship right on half time as hooker Stuart Smith ran in under the posts for a 31-17 interval lead. A some early pressure from Helsby the fourths got back on their scoring ways with Wright and then Smith sneaking through for tries. Man of the match Danny Rice scored the try of the game taking the ball form a break out to surge 70 metres to score after out pacing the home cover. Helsby pulled one try back before Wright and Smith spurned hatrick chances (skinflintS did not want to buy a jug ) by passing to Grant Bentley and Mckinney respectively with the line i sight
