Played in great spirit, on a wonderful playing surface in decent weather…. it’s what rugby is all about!
Eccles Squad; Ollie, Danniel (Capt), Seb, Finn, Maxwell, Alfie, Ethan, Jonnie, Charlie.
Eccles U8s made the short trip across the bridge following a late invite for the fixture, and took on 3 TMV sides awash with prodigious talent. It provided all the players to put their training efforts into match practice and the watching numbers were entertained right from the first whistle.
The first game saw matters even as TMV took an early lead with the Eccles defence putting too much focus into securing the middle of the playing area. With Daniel taking on this season’s captaincy, he constantly organised, directed and led from the front before Ollie and Jonnie got on the score sheet. The pace of the game suited both teams as they both looked to supply the wide players. MV sporting some great wing play and finishing.
The second game saw Eccles take the coaches instructions onto the pitch. Their defence was incredible with Alfie, Ollie, Maxwell taking some clean tags. Ethan made his return to the fold with his delightful lines of running adding his speed along the touch line. In complimentary manner, new commers Seb and Charlie showed their pace in attack. Finn, reliable as ever, held the middle with some great ball handling and passing. The team began to click, despite the rolling substitutes, and took the second game narrowly with further scores from Ollie, Daniel and Alfie.
The third and final game saw honours going to TMV again, after some excellent wide play, they scored their tries in the corners. With the Eccles boys running out of steam (and the smell of sausages wafting across), Charlie capped his first game for the team with a real neatly taken score.
This Sunday 29th sees the first fixtured game of the season against Sedgely Park. If the boys can learn their own wide game, then this group of players will develop their strengths and enjoy their game time. All in all, a great day of rugby and a pleasure to have been involved.
Thanks to Stuart for reffereeing (fairly!) amidst some pressure decisions(!!) and to those who came along to support. Big game Sunday!
