It’s always difficult reporting on two games being played at the same time, but with our DoR supporting one, yours truly officiated on the other game between Eccles 7’s and Heaton Moor 7’s.
Once again, our fixtures Secretary Carl Dutton provided a great opposition with which these two clubs took pleasure in testing each other. Played in great spirit with some of the best running and passing we’ve seen this season, it was ‘Moor who took the lead in the Coach’s first game after Eccles began slowly again. With 3 new boys making their debuts, Lewis kindly agreeing to make up the numbers for ‘Moor, Evan looked to the experienced boys to lead from the front. Maxwell Captained the team and brilliantly organised his lines, then with ball in hand pushed ‘Moor back to create Luke’s first try of the day.
Some great counter attacking saw the next try go to ‘Moor as their winger exploited the room out wide. Alfie came up for his first try as well as taking some real ‘clean’ tags, despite playing with an injured ankle before Ben, in his first game, slipped the defenders to mark his first game for the club with a great try.
Elliot and Lewis deserve a mention, both in their first game, but it was the ‘regular’ boys who conducted things in defence and attack that provided great entertainment in a well balanced game for those watching.
In the other game on pitch No;01, Director of Rugby Chris, reported that it was possibly the best display from the team this season. Again the weather complimented Jonnies running game as three times he arced around the defence to score over the line. Danniel continued his success rate of at least a try in every game, with his tag partner Ollie getting on the score sheet also. The pair finished the day with a hat trick each along with Johnnie!
‘Moor were not rolling over for for anyone however, and a great tag count saw a rare handing over of posession before they deservedly went in at the corner to balance things out.
Finn and Noah kept the defence tight with their strong tag taking before Finn marked another great game with some neat footwork to score. Harry looked for the ball time and again in the middle of the park drawing the ‘Moor defence to make the gaps.
A great days rugby for these clubs, played in the spirit they have nurtured down the years. Thanks to Dan and Chris from ‘Moor and we look forward to visiting them next season.

Please make an effort this Saturday 20th April to attend the bag packing at Asda in Trafford, 10.00am – 2.00pm. This opportunity to make much needed funds for the mini section (U7’s – U10s) does not present itself too often. We can provide training kit etc as well as keeping the joining fees down, only if we put the effort in. See web site for details or contact Monica Borritt 07980 780 998.
