Eccles U7 v Trafford MV U7

At long last the weather was (just) conducive to allowing the mini’s to put into practice all their hard training over the weeks!

We made the short journey over the bridge to Trafford MV to take on not one, but three teams, in a series of games played in great spirit, with committment and passion aplenty.

The first game saw us take on the first choice TMV u7 with everyone keen to show their lines of running and tag-taking. Ollie was first on the score sheet with a mazy run left and right, taking the MV defence this way then that, to score in the corner. MV replied with a dynamic try themselves, thanks to some great passing and running eluding the efforts of the Eccles tag takers.Maxwell stepped up with his trademark straight running into contact and creating the space for Jonnie, Luke and Noah to hit. Danniel shown some light foot work to place the ball over the line for try number 02. Again MV hit back immediately, this time out wide when the winger was encouraged to hug the side line, scoring in the corner once more.

The second period saw Eccles begin to transfer the ball through the hands with Alfie constantly looking for gaps and Megan taking some great lines. MV took the lead momentarily before Ollie again made like a side-winder before planting the ball to level the scores. The MV ref complimented Ollie for running like a crab!

Luke finished smartly for the first of his brace of tries, soon followed by Megan to stretch the lead byond the MV team as the first game went to Eccles.

The second game saw a fresh set of MV players and again, the Eccles defence was tested before MV took the early lead. Jonnie showed his appetite for the ball after drifting in off his wing to make an additional attacker up the middle where his quick feet were not about to let him down. 1-1 apiece. Max then finished from close range to put Eccles in front, then Luke nailed his second after the turn around at the break. With Alfie, Ollie and Noah ripping tags at will, Eccles played out the remainder of the game in the MV half to win 4-2.

The third game saw the bravery of these kids come through. Again MV fresh legs started at pace to nudge into the lead. Alfie took another tag before hitting the floor and having his hand accidently trodden on. Noah took a bad bang to the knee, and there were more frozen hands than a than on a swedish town hall clock! Danniel jinked in for his second of the day then Ollie claimed his first hat trick for the club…. that’ll cost him a jug in years to come!

Great performance from all made the coaching staff very proud! We just need to work on staying behind the ball carrier in the forth comming weeks as this group of players just get better and better. Thanks to Stuart from MV for hosting us and refereeing.
