On Sunday eccles u18s girls hosted Littleborough in the National cup with an early kick off to accommodate the littleborough girls who were involved in Remembrance Sunday activities that afternoon.
Despite the weather conditions both sides were prepared to play some free flowing rugby which was a credit to both teams. Early tries from eccles centre H. Bawden put eccles in front and led the way to further tries from A. Calton and K. Purcell.
Eccles forwards dominated at the lineout with excellent work from hooker R. Roden, 2nd row E. Siddall, and lifters A. Blades and T. Harper.
At 11.00 the match was stopped as all players, match officials and supporters respected the 2 minutes silence of remembrance Sunday.
The second half saw eccles extend their lead further as the forwards dominated the breakdown area not only securing their own ball but turning over the opposition ball, Purcell, Harper and L.Christian being the main instigators of the turn over ball and counter ruck.
Further tries from Bawden (6 in total!!), and Harper (3) put Eccles further ahead with 4 conversions from Calton.
With Eccles forwards in the ascendancy the backs had plenty of ball to run with. M. Price back from Bishop Burton college for the weekend ran the show from stand off and showed why she is so dangerous in open play with a solo effort from her own 22 beating several littleborough players to score under the posts. Bawden and Calton combined well all game picking good support lines. E. Acir had her best game yet out on the wing, solid in defence and retaining possession in contact.
The link between forwards and back was vital with H. Brand putting in yet another solid performance at scrum half and getting herself on the scored board with try from half way her first try for the club.
Over all a great performance by Eccles but despite the score line the Littleborough girls never gave up and competed throughout the game which was a credit to the girls and their coaching staff.
next game is Sunday 22nd November when Eccles entertain Litchfield at home in the next round of the National Cup. Kick off time to be arranged.
