Litchfield travelled up the M6 motorway to fulfill their cup fixture with 15 committed players who started the game determined to take Eccles girls by surprise.
Within the first 5 minutes Litchfield were already on the score board with a simple try that was unconverted. Minutes later they scored again leaving the Eccles team 12 points a drift.
Eccles were boosted by 7 girls from Vale of Lune rugby club some of whom had never play a game of rugby before but all gave a good account of themselves coming off the bench in 10 minute spells to gain match day experience.
scrums were contested for the first time this season with front row forwards T Harper, R Roden and A Blades competing extremely well against a more experienced Litchfield front row.
A third try by Litchfield saw them go 17 points in front but by now eccles were starting to make some headway against a good Litchfield team. With 10 mins to go before half time Eccles scored the try of the game off a lineout with an excellently executed inside switch between M Price and H Bawden as the inside centre ran 30 metres to score under the posts A Calton converted.
The second half saw captain K Purcell move to prop from back row once again showing very great versatility and commitment to the team. Tackling from both sides was full on and very physical and a credit to the commitment of both teams.
Two further tries by Litchfield rounded off the game 7 – 31 despite the best efforts of the Eccles girls.
