Eccles U10s at the Preston Grass Hoppers Tournament

I’m not about to give this away and steal our roving pitch side reporter James’ poetic licence!

So, you will have to await his literary genius and allow me to add the coaches comments on a magnificent season for our under 10s.

We have seen these players develop their rugby skills and attitudes with a large amount of pride. We started the season with our first tour to Rossendale RFC where we made the final, against expectations, taking some big scalps to get there. The net result of this was the boys suddenly became a team! (And there was a few revelations in the kitchen! Sit back girls, you’re in good hands with some of these dads commanding a kitchen with a large cooker! Dom & John…. Put an office boffin and a fireman together and what you get is a well organised clean and efficient kitchen!!!)

From that point on we realised that we could not only hold our own against the bigger clubs, but we could take our game to them and have them playing on the back-foot. We developed a game plan and identified players positions where they could be at their most devastating, and it worked!

We embraced the players we attracted from our rugby league cousins and the team visibly leapt forward. Our only girl in the ranks, Anni, eventually got signed up by Man Utd ladies and Jack secured his wrestling awards to become a champion! Well done to you both!

So, before James up-loads his report from the tournament, I wanted to offer my end of season analysis and compliments.

Without the support of a tremendous group of parents (who never give me a moments aggravation!) and a committed group of players, the future of the club would be uncertain. As it stands, we have a great squad of players who realise that it isn’t the team that runs out onto the playing surface, it’s the whole squad who join together in support of each other to show the mental attitude needed to be on top of this wonderful game of ours! Huge well done and I will expand on this at the Marquee awards in May (providing Boo keeps me off the red wine at the dinner the night before!).

The future of the club is looking good!

Thanks firstly: Our Sponsors from Hi-way Components, and Simon and Dean. The kids are still proud in their shirts sporting the company logo.

Thanks to Paula, our team manger and logistics expert who keeps us legitimate and compliant with Heather!

‘Dr Dave’ and his ‘healing’ hands: (and team-liaison-ambassador-joke teller and coach!)

John C for joining the coaching ranks seamlessly and eventually getting on the whistle last week! Well done!

Most of all, the parents who continued to bring the kids down in the depths of winter to hear me shouting at them (the kids that is!)

That’s it! See you all for pre-season training!!

Paul
