Eccles to play Army

In recognition of the recent Eccles RFC Duke of Edinburgh Gold epic expedition to France, where nine U18s players walked 150km over 5 days to lay tributes and poppy wreaths at the WW1 Thiepval memorial, a team from the 1st Bn, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will play Eccles 1st XV in a #Somme101 commemorative pre-season friendly on Saturday 19th August.

The club was contacted by  Rugby Officer Major Pugh and the event was announced this morning on BBC Radio.

Before the Mens game there will be a Ladies rugby open training session and ‘Inner Warrior’ event for women and girls, where there will be Lancashire County and International players in attendance. Following the game there will be refreshments and a big screen presentation in the clubhouse, where the young people will talk about their research of the Pals Battalions and their experience in France. This will be a big day for the club. All are welcome to attend.  More information to follow.
