Gorton St. 13/10.13 – 2.00pm k.o. Att: 61
A bigger squad to pick from this week for Coach Dave but Waterloo travelled with only 13 so Billy and Paddy volunteered to play for the opposition. After Curtis’s dazzling display on the wing last Sunday it was Ross’ turn today!
Early pressure from Eccles payed off as Joe at centre ran into the corner, most of the crowd thought he was tackled or should have passed but he managed to score, Aaron missed the difficult kick, 5-0. A great drive from Lenny who passed to Harry who went over to score shortly after, Aaron kicked the conversion, 12-0. Eccles were comfortable but Connor decided he wanted to come off for a rest again! The backs were receiving good ball with Joe and Luke pressuring the Waterloo defence. Aaron at stand off weaved his way through to score under the sticks to make it an easy kick for himself but he missed the conversion!! 17-0. Some great tackles were being made especially from Joe and Tom Waring. Waterloo lost another player but Danny stepped in and played alongside the other two. Harry burst through right on half time to score his 2nd try, Aaron converted, 24-0.
Waterloo continued to defend well but they couldn’t stop Aaron passing several of their players but the pass to Ben was ruled forward. This only proved to be a minor hiccup as the next move saw Matty pass quickly to Ross who found Aaron who again weaved his way through the defence to score his 2nd try and kick the conversion, 31-0. Waterloo kicked deep, Ross took the ball well and beat a couple of players before being tackled, Eccles rucked well and a well-practised move was on the cards but somehow Waterloo came out with the ball and ran through to score, 31-7. (more practice needed). The final play of the match saw Aaron pass to Tom who found Ross with a quick ball who went over in the corner to score, Aaron missed the difficult kick, 36-7.
A good display all round which was needed after the defeat last week. Well done to the 3 Eccles players who played for the opposition.
Man of the match this week goes to Tom Waring.
