On Monday 20th October, Eccles rugby club welcomed Prince Harry as he attended a RFU School rugby festival. It was all because of his role as patron of the England Rugby All Schools programme, which aims to encourage more schools to teach rugby union as part of the legacy for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
He took part in a training session, alongside England Rugby community coaching staff, for local teachers working to become rugby coaches for their schools. He was also engaging with pupils to promote the sport.
Eccles RFC was chosen to host the royal guest and the rugby festival because of its overall success with club rugby and its work with the wider community with activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The event went smoothly and Eccles were privileged to welcome such important guests such as Prince Harry, the Chairmen of the RFU Bill Beaumont, the Women’s World Cup winner Sarah Hunter and many more.
