Eccles Colts 10 v 31 Leigh

Eccles welcomed the visit of Leigh to Gorton Street. Early exchanges took place from both sides. The deadlock was broken by Leigh with a try which was converted, 0-7. On 25 mins Eccles got some points on the board with a penalty kick from Aaron, 3-7. Leigh attacked well with the full back speeding away, a certain try thought the Leigh support but Matt Parkinson had other ideas and tackled well. A fairly tight 1st half ended when Eccles made a mistake in the backs and Leigh pounced with a try, 3-12.

Into the 2nd half and a break again from the full back saw the number 15 go over but another great tackle from Matt Parkinson who held him up stopping a try. The next attack though saw Leigh score in the corner, 3- 17. A quick penalty and the ball out to Ben saw him go close but he was tackled well. Good pressure followed with Harry going close but the Leigh defence tackled well. Leigh had two players sin binned and although down to 13 players they defended well and when under pressure they cleared there lines well and on one occasion kicked from deep which the winger chased, the ball bounced in his favour and he collected well to score, 3-24.Another mistake led to the Leigh full back running from deep in his own half to score, 3-31. Eccles continued to press and were rewarded when Tom Waring went over to score, Aaron converted, 10-31.

Too many mistakes from Eccles cost them the game, plenty to work on.
