Eccles 4th 27 V Aldwinians 4th 27 11/04/2015

The 4ths snatched a last minutes draw which means this weeks away fixture at Rochdale is winner takes all for third spot in the league .The visitors never to be taken lightly whatever their league position managed to produce a performance which had Eccles reeling in the first half who had only a Conor McKinney to show for their efforts and trailed 20-5 at the interval. A much better show in the second half with tries from Shaun Barlow Dom Maher and Alex Pugh pulled the fourths back into the match but they still trailed with minutes left on the clock but concerted pressure saw Pugh power in to score right beside the corner flag to bag the extra point.Conor Mckinney snapped up the Jolly Roger award with honourable mention to Gary Dunham who had come on as replacement .Blind Pugh to Shaun Barlow for starting the fight !!!. Congrats to Nathan Cooper for surviving hospital and now dad to Kayln 7lb 4oz.
Apologies for the short report did not witness the above events busy trying to steer 5th team aka The Forlorn Hope (not a reflection on the team but historical reference ) who had their 4th outing of the season against Chorley who had already beaten and drawn with the fourths this season. A last minute fixture with a thrown together side intended to be bolster with a contingent from Burnage but only Barry the boxer actually turned up leaving only 11 bodies at kick off but Chorley loaned two players meaning 13 v 14 .It was going to be a tough task for the 5ths especially with two forwards in the backs and a half back line well above 100 years. The team battled hard and tried to play open rugby but were unable to prevent Chorley building up a 20 point lead at the interval. The second half proved tougher with the loss of two players to the 4ths and retiree through injury with the eventual 58-0 scoreline doing scant justice to the efforts of the players who deserved a couple of tries and just failed narrowly to do so. Thanks to Chorley for the sportmanship in making
a game of it by lending men and even bigger thanks to Danny Rice , Andy Waring, Dave Cusick, ,Paddy Ward, Ashley Nasir , Clive Crowther ,Gary Dunham ,Aiden Dunham ,Joel Bruton ,Barry (Burnage) Steve (Chorley) and Chris (Chorley) for tackling their socks off and keeping positive right up to the final whistle .
