Dukinfield 3rd 19 v Eccles 4th 44 14/02/2015

The fourths travelled to Tameside a friendly fixture (usually a fairly spicy affair) and came away with a deserved win in open well contested match. Both teams fielded mirror image line ups experience in the forwards and youth and pace in the backs which made for an even contest.Whilst the forwards battled for supremecy with gusto the backs treated the spectators to some fine handling .Tries from Riddick Manaya and Nick Akibusi gave Eccles the early advantage before the home side hit back with a converted effort. Smart handling created space for winger Dominic (a loanee from the home team) and fullback Ryan Chattington to add two further tries with one converted by Jay Wilson for a merited 22-7 lead at the interval.A period of sloppy passing in eraly stages of the secon half allowed Dukinfield a toehold into the match which they capitalised on with a converted try.The fourths regrouped a hit back with a well deserved try for winger Anthony McNally and another from the powerful running Manaya which Wilson converted from the touchline .Dukinfield then enjoyed a spell of pressure in the visitors 22 coming away a disputed try which could have caused a wobble but neat handling paved the way for Chattington to score . A swift movement of ball
created a chink of space which Dominic exploited to weave through the home defence and squeeze in at the corner to settle the match. The edge in the match was the superior handling and running of the Eccles backs but the cornerstone was the effort of the forwards especially the two locks Conleth McCambridge and Nick Akibusi with former erning the Jolly Roger pennant. Blind Pugh went to Jay Wilson for all those missed goal attempts proving lobbying does not always work i.e “who is doing the match report please don’t mention my kicking display it was because I had no tee” .The moral is lobbying works better with thirty pieces of silver ho ho ho and bottle of rum !!
