Bury 3rd 12 v Eccles 3rd 41 29/10/2016

The thirds made the early running territorially but being on the wrong end of numerous decisions failed to turn that pressure into points but perversely took the lead from ball in their own 22 with debutant Gavin Ackers playing at fullback slipping through tackles to race 75 meters to touchdown with Tom Wilson converting. Bury were soon on level terms as lost d ball in the home half was kicked into Eccles 22 and their forwards forced a try .Having the better of the exchanges Eccles  were back in front after a scrum on halfway saw excellent handling create a space for Nick Hageman to race away under the posts and then quickly add another this time from rubbish ball but Gavin managed to find space to again race away with Tom adding his third conversion .Good defence maintained the advantage with prop  Dann Isaac relieving pressure with one burst up the touchline handing off a couple of would be tacklers before Anthony Littleford turn over home ball for Tom Rose speed neatly into the corner for smart try .A 26-7 interval lead was good value for the teams efforts . Straight from the restart Dann took the ball made 30 metres where Andy Davies took up the mantle and only stopped 2 metres from the line but the ball was recycled and fed out with Dave Cusick applying the finish.Once more from the restart Dann latched onto the ball but this time surged 60 metres through the home tacklers to score . Bury hit back with try to narrow the lead to 36-12 and put in a big effort through the forwards to claw back more points but the Eccles defence held firm despite the 16 man squad having to rotate 5 players in turn due to injuries sustained .A kick ahead from Craig Wells late in the match was regathered by Gavin who duly completed his hat trick .A great display showing the better attacking skills despite some poor passes allied to resilient defence especially in the second half which kept physio Piers busy with some super tackles all round but take a bow Matt Appleby and Rory McGrath with Maestro of the match being Gavin Ackers not only for his 3 tries but a couple of flying tackles.
